PARIS — Ÿnsect has launched its new B2B2C brand of insect-based ingredients specifically for the pet food and treat industry: Sprÿng. The new brand offers premium ingredients that offer health benefits, as well as having a low environmental impact.
“More than just ingredients, Sprÿng wants to enlighten pet owners and represent real choice in the way they consume for their companions,” said Alice Pabst Landon, Ÿnsect’s director of marketing. “A choice without compromise: quality without feeling guilty about its environmental footprint.”
As pet populations continue to grow, many pet owners are becoming more aware of the impact their pets have on the environment, especially when it comes to their nutrition. With this in mind, Ÿnsect has developed Sprÿng, which affirms its mission to revolutionize today’s food system, according to the company.
“Our pets are an extension of our family and there is nothing more important than the health and safety of your family,” said Benjamin Armenjon, Ph.D., general manager of animal health and nutrition at Ÿnsect. “With that in mind, we looked for a way to maximize your pet’s quality of life by creating Spring. Our brand guarantees pet food manufacturers a sustainable option with the highest quality nutrition for their fur babies. It is the key to rebalancing the diet of our pets, providing nutrition and protecting the environment”.
The new Sprÿng brand offers “highly technical products” to help reduce the impacts of the pet food industry and treat the environment. According to Ÿnsect, the ingredients have a smaller environmental footprint compared to other ingredients with the same properties.
“At Sprÿng, we breed mealworms to provide a new, qualitative source of pet food while limiting our impact,” said Maximilien Jouy, Ÿnsect’s impact manager. “The contribution to climate change of one kilo of our Protein70 feed, for example, is 17 times less than that of beef viscera, but also less than that of chicken viscera.”
The new brand offers ingredients that are easy to incorporate into pet nutrition formulas, taste neutral and odorless. The light brown ingredients are developed using mealworms, the larval form of the Tenebrio molitor, a species of beetle. They offer high nutritional benefits and can be used in both dry and wet pet foods. According to Ÿnsect, Sprÿng offers the highest protein content (up to 71%) on the current insect market, a low ash content of less than 5%, and contains linolic acids.
With Sprÿng, Ÿnsect hopes to position itself as a leader in the alternative protein market and increase its orders, which currently consist of $175 million in signed contracts. The company also shared that it has $1 billion in contracts under negotiation.
“Our mission with Ÿnsect has always been to create a natural, healthy and sustainable solution to fight world hunger,” said Antoine Hubert, CEO of Ÿnsect. “Sprÿng is the next evolution in making that mission a reality. This unique pet food provides our customers with a nutritious option for their pets that has the lowest possible environmental impact, something that has not been available until now.”
The release of Sprÿng follows several expansions for Ÿnsect. In 2021, the company began construction of the “the largest vertical farm in the world” in Aimens, France, which will make its first deliveries this year. In late 2022, the company detailed plans to build its second insect farm in the United States and his first in Mexico.
